Nice Tripod
Other then simply needing a second tripod, I bought this tripod because of the 72'' length. I'm 5'9 and spend most of my days ducking under things or craning down, and this tripod is perfect because I don't have to do either.The grip handle in between the legs made of hard plastic, is nice and sturdy for picking the unit up on the move.The head is able to snap off and then lock back into place via a lever on the back.The three legs, the tops of which are encased in a non slip padding, extend for the additional tripod height, and the head/platform extends upwards via a crank on the side.There is a small water level on one of the legs that indicates when the three legs are, well, level.You can swivel the platform around a full 360 as well as tilt it up or down.The carrying case is plain and is not padded, though it does feature an adjustable strap.The one downfall which doesn't really bother me, is that...

It's a great tripod. I'm 5'10" and I don't need to extend the 3rd leg extensionwhich make the tripod really sturdy. It's just a bit long when folded (26 inches).

Great Value - Excellent spare, starter or secondary tripod for great price
This low cost tripod came up as a promotional offer when purchasing a camera so I really wasn't expecting much since the price was so low. I figured the tripod bag would cost nearly that much so decided to give it a try. While by no means is this a professional model, it is an excellent value for an affordable starter tripod or spare.Features:Relatively lightweight - certainly not in the lightest class but sturdy and still manages to remain light enough to not tire for standard use.Ability to rotate in all directions.Quick connect/disconnect feature.Able to hold decent sized DSLR not just super light weight point and shoot models.Decent little canvas bag.Quick hang hook.Good spread - fairly steady.Ability to set-up on non level surface.All in all, this is a terrific starter tripod or spare you can toss around, leave in the car etc for a very affordable price. great, cheap tripod
i also got this tripod with my camera on a promotional offer and didnt expect much but i was surprised in how versatile and sturdy it is!you can point it in any direction and orient the camera how you like. big plus for me because i like to point my camera at the sky.the locking mechanisms allow you to control how tight or loose you want to be able to move your camera very well. at the appropriate tightness, you can move the camera very smoothly and it will stay in place when you let go, but make sure its not too loose. all the tightning nuts can all be adjusted by hand too, including the piece that connects to the camera(ive seen some tripods that require a screwdriver).this tripod is sturdy, and can be set up very quickly. and it packs up nicely. i can attach it to my rebel camera bag with no problems.Im very happy with this tripod.

Does what you would expect-- DOES focus image before triggering shutter
It's no surprise that when you stand in front of the camera and push thebutton, the remote triggers the shutter. There does seem to be someconfusion in reviews, both here and elsewhere, as to the remote's abilityto focus the lens before triggering the shutter.This remote is capable of focusing the lens before triggering the shutter.However, it will not focus the lens if the photographer has alreadypushed the shutter release button on the camera half way down to focusthe image or if you are shooting in Manual mode and have AF-C set asthe Autofocus mode.This means that if you are composing a photograph and push the shutterbutton half way down to focus the image and you then stand in front ofthe camera and push the remote button, the image will not focusbecause you've already pushed the camera shutter release button halfway down to focus. If you own a D70 you simply can't be without this item. Because Nikon chose not to include a mechanical cable release option (or an electronic one either), it is difficult to shoot at slow shutter speeds, even on a tripod, without getting camera shake affecting your images. You can use the timer, but that doesn't always work for your shooting situation. With this remote, you get the same basic operation as a cable release as well as a bonus that you can put yourself in front of the lens and use the remote to trip the shutter release. It also works in combination with the self timer. One small concern is that because it's an IR remote, you must point it at the sensor, which is on the front of the camera. This can be awkward standing behind a tripod, but not seriously. I really enjoy using this product.

IR remote review....
Well...its a remote.I use it with my d50 and it works to about 30 ft. When I get the shot composed, I press the timer button 2x to get the camera ready to shoot, press the button and step out, or sit down and press the button during group shots.In bulb mode I do the same. Press the timer 3x to get it ready, press to start the shot and step away. Come back and press the button again and it stops the shot.Works just like it is supposed to.One thing to remember is to set the camera's time to receive the signal. The camera automatically turns the IR off after a certian amount of time. If this happens, it won't accept it until you turn it back on. If you'll be taking a lot of shots, just change the camera's setting to look for the remote for 5 minutes or so.

loving this tripod so far.
i'm using this with a nikon d80 and i'm very happy with it so far.received it as a gift and it is great.it is not too heavy, thankfully, which means it's not a real hassle to carry around. it's also a solid build, not surprising at all from nikon of course. i like the black color as well, looks nice with my camera.it extends very smoothly, and retracts very smoothly as well. the ergonomics of this tripod are 5 star, haven't found anything that isn't smooth or easy to adjust. the camera fits securely on the mount and the tilt/pan controls are sturdy.the camera mount piece comes off so you don't have to turn your camera in circles to mount it, just remove it, twist it onto the camera, and slide the camera in place onto the tripod. pretty standard but it's definitely an improvement from my old tripod which did not have this feature.great tripod and good price.

feature rich tripod!
It is made out of aluminum. Light enough to carry around the whole day yet still very sturdy. The aluminum ball head actually performs well. Once you've got the desired angle and lock it in place, the camera will stay on that angle until you release the lock unlike my 20 usd tripod. Im using a d80 with 18-270mm lens attached. That's about 1.2kg weight. The tripod is rated by the manufacturer to handle up to 13 lbs of equipment. Other features are a quick release plate, 2 bubble levels ( one on the head and the other on the legs), user replaceable aluminum tripod head, a threaded weight hook and spiked feet. The tripod can also converted so you can take macro shots. The legs can be locked in position independent of one another. With all these features plus great performance, this tripod is a steal!One minor hiccup, the plastic on the leg clamps, while not cheap, isnt top of the line. But they get the job done so it a no issue for me

Great Tripod for the Price
If you're a professional photographer, go look at Manfrotto or some of the other high end brands. If you're an amateur photographer looking for a good tripod that won't cut into your lens budget, then look no further.The ball head is nice, but is sometimes a bit unwieldy, and difficult to set. Sometimes you have to crank down the tightening nut a lot to get it to stay. The snaps that extend the legs are plastic feel cheap, but what can you expect from such an inexpensive tripod?On the good side, you are getting a ball head tripod, with legs that can be extended past their typical angle. They also have nice padding on them which is great in the Northern climates when you have to work without gloves. The tips of the legs can be rotated to reveal spikes for difficult terrain, and there's two bubble levels: one on the legs of the tripod, and one on the actual ball head. Great tripod with performance legs that spread low and wide for macro work for the price. The quick release plate, quick flip lever leg release and lock, bubble levers, and a good tripod case besides being light and compact is great. The weak area for this tripod is the weak strength of the legs when fully extended, it has too much play but great for P&S digitals O.K. for small dSLR with small lens.
